Dr. Allemagne chose to name his practice “The St. Dymphna Center for Counseling and Family Therapy, PLLC” because St. Dymphna is the patron saint for mental health concerns and psychologists. Patients are not required or encouraged to be Catholic or of any particular denomination, as Dr. Allemagne welcomes the opportunity to work with those possessing both a faith-based life or spirituality and those that do not. However, Dr. Allemagne does request for St. Dymphna to intercede on behalf of his clinical practice and work, along with the patients he serves. For those not familiar with the term intercession it is the same concept as asking a friend to keep you in their prayers for your well-being or if you are going through a difficult time. It is not, as sometimes misunderstood, praying to St. Dymphna, as she is not a God; rather, Saints in this sense are people who lived very holy, heroic and virtuous lives. Given the extremely challenging and heroic issues St. Dymphna met in her life on earth along with her devotion to God, she has been honored as the Patron Saint of Mental Health Concerns, Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Neurologists, and Sexual Abuse and Incest Survivors.
